Guided by excellence in mathematical research and international collaboration
Welcome to the Lie-Størmer Center. Located at 69°N in Tromsø, we unite computational and pure mathematics through collaborative research and international exchange. Our mission is to bridge the deep theoretical insights of Sophus Lie and Carl Størmer with the computational challenges of the 21st century. We invite researchers, students, and partners to join us in exploring mathematical structures that shape our understanding of the world.

Leadership
The Lie–Størmer Center is hosted by the Faculty of Science and Technology at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway. It is led by Hans Munthe-Kaas and Cordian Riener, and guided by a Board of Directors and an International Scientific Advisory Board.
The Center brings together researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, and visitors from Norway and abroad, fostering an open and collaborative environment for research, training, and innovation.
Governance
The Center is governed by a Board of Directors providing strategic oversight and institutional guidance, working alongside an International Scientific Advisory Board that ensures scientific excellence and relevance. This dual governance structure enables both administrative effectiveness and scientific integrity.
